The Door Lock cluster was revised in Matter 1.3
The Connectivity Standards Alliance released Matter 1.3 on May 8, 2024. The official release notes identify the Door Lock cluster among several clusters receiving revisions, alongside improvements to specification and SDK tooling.
Matter already includes door locks as a supported device category. Cluster revisions are therefore relevant to manufacturers and brands maintaining implementations, preparing certification or coordinating compatibility with ecosystem platforms.
Interoperability requires more than adding a radio module
A Matter smart lock project combines lock behavior, connectivity hardware, firmware, commissioning, controller compatibility and certification. The selected lock must still perform reliably as a physical access product when network conditions or ecosystem services are unavailable.
Buyers should define required lock and user-management functions, platform targets, Thread or Wi-Fi architecture, OTA update responsibility, battery-life expectations and test coverage before approving the development scope.
Certification evidence should match the exact product version
Matter certification applies to a defined implementation. Changes to hardware, firmware, device behavior or ecosystem integration may affect the evidence required for the final product configuration.
For an OEM or ODM program, the quotation should distinguish standard hardware supply from protocol development, platform onboarding, certification support and long-term firmware maintenance.
