Smart Lock Mortise and Door Compatibility: A Technical Checklist for Buyers

A technical checklist for matching smart lock hardware to door material, thickness, handing, backset, mortise dimensions and installation conditions before sample approval.

01

Door data comes before smart lock model selection

Smart lock mortise and door compatibility should be confirmed before a buyer approves appearance, functions or packaging. Door material, thickness, opening direction, edge preparation and existing cut-outs determine whether the selected front panel, rear panel and lock body can be installed correctly.

Photographs are useful, but dimensioned door and mortise drawings provide a more reliable technical basis. Project buyers should also identify whether the application is a new door program or a retrofit of an installed mechanical lock.

02

Mortise dimensions that influence installation

Key parameters include the backset, centre distance, faceplate length and width, case depth, spindle position, fixing points and latch or deadbolt arrangement. The required cylinder and emergency-key configuration must also match the market and door construction.

Opening direction and handle orientation should be recorded in the project specification. For mixed-door projects, each door family may require a separate compatibility matrix rather than one universal assumption.

03

Sample installation is part of technical validation

A sample should be installed on the intended door or a representative door fixture. The review should cover panel alignment, cable routing, spindle engagement, latch movement, motor load, mechanical-key operation and repeated locking and unlocking.

Software functions cannot compensate for incorrect mechanical matching. Installation findings should be closed before packaging artwork and volume production are released.

04

Smart lock compatibility checklist for an RFQ

Provide door material and thickness, door handing, existing cut-out drawings, mortise dimensions, required finish, indoor or outdoor exposure, access methods and project quantity. For retrofit work, include clear front, rear and edge photographs with a scale reference.

YOUNUO IET can review this information during sample planning. Compatibility remains subject to confirmation against the final door, mortise and approved product configuration.
